T2AT2A is a project lead by Staffordshire and West Midlands Probation Trust that assists young offenders make the transition from Youth Offending to adult Probation Services. They are looking for volunteers who have patience, commitment and drive to mentor and support young people aged 17-24 away from crime and towards attaining a range of adult skills and abilities so they can realise their full potential.

You would be matched to a young person and commit to meeting their needs for at least 12 months. This may include accompanying the young person to Court, supporting their achievement of qualifications, advocacy with housing providers, support with budgeting and introducing them to new activities and interests.

Volunteering for us will give you opportunities to make a difference in your community, make a difference in the life of a young person, meet new people and receive a robust recognised training package. If you are interested, then T2A would like to hear from you. If you are an employer, business, voluntary group or charity and would like to contribute in any way, including releasing staff so they can work as volunteers, then please contact T2A.

No formal qualifications are necessary for this role, although some knowledge of working with young adults with a range of issues, including alcohol and drug misuse and learning difficulties would be advantageous. However many different experiences are useful and relevant to our work, so candidates who are willing to persevere with a young adult who may be struggling, are encouraged to apply.

All successful volunteers will be required to consent to an Enhanced Criminal Record Bureau check. This check will show any cautions, bindovers, and convictions. However don’t be put off from applying. Previous convictions do not bar you from volunteering. Consideration will be given to the circumstances around the offence. Please note we are not able to consider applications from persons who are currently subject to Community Orders, Suspended Sentence Orders or Licence. If you have previously been sentenced to a custodial sentence, you will need to wait until after your sentence expiry date (SED) to apply.
