Supatrax Launch The Tahlia Banks Grant Awards

TahliaBanksAwardLogoFrom today (16th September 2016) young people and their families are encouraged to apply for Supatrax's small grants to help them achieve their educational goals.

The 'Tahlia Banks Award' is a new annual grants award by charity Supatrax, inspired by a strong young lady who passed away in April 2015 after a life long battle with Cystic Fibrosis aged 20. Despite her condition Tahlia inspired many to achieve through her media and radio skills and successfully enrolled on a BA Hons Degree in Media and Communications.

Via the 'Tahlia Banks Award' young people we will be awarded small grants or brought equipment to help achieve their educational goals.

1. Who can apply?

The awards are open to all young people aged 8-21 and families of those young people who face adversities to being able to learn.

Level of study:                  Young people must be in education, ready to enrol or working towards enrolling on any level of educational studying.

Level of income:               Priority will be given to those living on a low income (primarily in receipt of benefits), includes low waged

Residency status:             Have right of residency in the UK

Age range:                       8 – 21years of age

Educational subject:       There are currently no restrictions on the subject of study but preference will be given to those studying a "creative subject" (e.g. media, communications, design, music etc.)

 

2. What items can be funded?

The "additional" costs associated with a course of study such as clothing and/or equipment required for the course, travel, examination costs, computers/laptops.

 

3. What items cannot be funded?

We will not fund course fees, costs already incurred, items provided by the college for the course, childcare, study outside the UK, higher education courses, postgraduate study or personal expenditure not directly associated with study such as food, clothing, household bills.

 

4. How much can I apply for?

The average grant is likely to be in the region of £100 to a maximum of £300.

 

5. How to apply?

Please send a brief email max. 500 words explaining what the grant would be required for and provide some background information about the young person who will receive the award.

Awards will be given out in October 2016 (or before if urgently required)

Funds have been made available via a charity bike ride from London to Amsterdam to Brussels over 4 days

Hannah Cockcroft MBE who recently won Gold in Rio also named her wheelchair 'Tahlia' after Tahlia Banks

Tahlia did various fund raising for charity which included abseiling down Aston Villa's Holte End
