Penthouse reopens after gunshots

Birmingham_niteBirmingham's premier RnB hotspot reopens this weekend (17/09/2010) following shots being fired outside the club last week.

Penthouse closed it's door last weekend cancelling one of the club's most hyped nights of the year. The infamous Heartless Crew were supposed to playin at Penthouse but the event was cancelled following recommendations from West Midlands Police.

The event was cancelled after armed police arrested a man in connection with shots fired outside the club after an off-duty police officer spotted the getaway car parked in a street.

Details of the car had been circulated among officers after it had been seen at the scene of a shooting in the early hours of Saturday (11/09/2010).

The Birmingham Mail reports that detectives said that a number of shots were fired outside the Penthouse nightclub on Wrottesley Street, in the city centre, at about 2.45am.

As people were getting ready to go the the club on the night a message was sent to members of the clubs Facebook group informing people of the cancelled event, it read:

Penthouse will be CLOSED TONIGHT (HLC Event). The event is POSTPONED (look out for a new date) As for last nite, we held a 1-off event that took place @ the club by new promoter. An argument took place which was dealt with by security + taken outside. Unfortunately a further altercation then happened at the bottom of the road which police are looking into.Police recommend we close for 1 NIGHT ONLY while they do this.

A bulletin was sent to police officers across Birmingham to be on alert for the vehicle.

An Birmingham Mail source said the vehicle was spotted on Sunday afternoon by an off-duty officer in Smethwick. Police marksman swooped on a house in Woodlands Street and arrested a man on suspicion of firearms offences.

A West Midlands Police spokesman said that a 25-year-old Birmingham man had been questioned by officers and bailed pending further inquiries.

No-one was reported injured in connection with the nightclub incident.

The club reopens this week with it's usual top notch line up. Saturday's line up includes G Child Presents I'm Fabulous LIVE... In The Bedroom featuring Mr M (Dash Down) "Summer Reunion".
