B68 Postcode murder

Jordon_Sergeant100x100Around a hundred mourning teenagers gathered on Quinton High Street on Saturday (20.03.10) night to pay respects to their murdered friend, Jordan Sergeant, who was killed in an attack in on the High Street last week.

What started out as a peaceful two minute silence for the murdered Halesowen college student, soon turned into a cat and mouse chase as police circulated the surrounding the area trying to disperse the large crowds of teenagers after they received calls from local residents who were in fear of the peaceful gathering turning into a retaliation attack over Mr Sergeants death.

Mr Sergeant’s family, of Chichester drive, Quinton, were forced to make the grievous decision to turn the 18 year olds life support machine off, after a brutal assault on Quinton High Street left the young man in a coma for three days.

Whilst police are still gathering evidence for the murder case, contrasting rumours are spreading throughout the area about the orchestration of the assault.

A friend of Mr Sergeant, who wishes not to be named, told Supatrax: "It was all over a firework that some ‘Quintoner’ had thrown at a Brandhall boy’s car. They were basically bullying Jordan trying to get him to snitch about who done it."

"In the end he just got fed up and told them it was him. About three man spotted him on Hagley Road West just opposite Big Johns and they jumped out the car and bashed him over the head with a hammer. Jordan thought he had just suffered a blow to the head so he got off home but he later collapsed and was rushed into hospital with a suspected fractured skull and brain damage."

Other rumours suggest that no weapon was used during the assault. A girl from the Brandhall area, who also wishes not to be named, said:

"There has always been a little beef between Quinton and Brandhall but never this serious. I never thought I’d see the day when someone around here gets killed over a postcode."

"There have been a lot of death threats floating around on Facebook and I’m seeing people around here who are like 25 years old talking about riding for B68. It’s stupid! This is a good area, not no ghetto! People need to grow up and take this innocent boy’s death as a wakeup call to stop all this petty violence."

A 17 year old from Warley has been charged with Jordan’s murder in Birmingham youth court this week, and two 16 year males have been bailed pending further police enquiries.
